To Have, There is (Living Thing)

PHRASES

THERE IS, THERE IS NOT

There is a dog

  • R: inu ga imasu
  • K: 犬がいます
  • H: いぬがいます
  • S: object (living) + ga + imasu

There is not a dog

  • R: inu wa imasen
  • K: 犬はいません
  • H: いぬはいません
  • S: object (living) + wa + imasen

There is a bathroom

  • R: toire ga arimasu
  • K: トイレがあります
  • H: といれがあります
  • S: object (non-living) + ga + arimasu

There is no bathroom

  • R: toire wa arimasen
  • K: トイレはありません
  • H: といれはありません
  • S: object (non-living) + wa + arimasen

There are dogs and cats

  • R: inu to neko ga imasu
  • K: 犬と猫がいます
  • H: いぬとねこがいます
  • S: object (living) one + to + object (living) two + ga + imasu

WHERE, HERE, IS

Where is the bedroom

  • R: shinshitu wa doko desuka
  • K: 寝室はどこですか 
  • H: しんしつはどこですか
  • S: location + wa + where + desuka

The bedroom is here

  • R: shinshitu wa koko desu
  • K: 寝室はここです
  • H: しんしつはここです
  • S: location + wa + (here, there, over there) + desu

It is there

  • R: asoko ni arimasu
  • K: あそこにあります
  • S: location + ni + there is

IT IS, IT IS NOT

it is a bathtub

  • R: ofuro desu
  • K: お風呂です
  • H: おふろです
  • S: subject + desu (positive form)

It is not a bathtub

  • R: ofuro dewa arimasen
  • K: お風呂ではありません
  • H: おふろではありません
  • S: subject + desu (negative form)

It is a cat

  • R: kore wa neko desu
  • K: これは猫です
  • H: これはねこです
  • S: this + wa + subject + it is (positive form)

It is not a cat

  • R: kore wa neko dewa arimasen
  • K: これは猫ではありません
  • H: これはねこではありません
  • S: this + wa + subject + it is (negative form)

DO YOU HAVE, I HAVE

Do you have pets?

  • R: petto wa imasuka
  • K: ペットはいますか
  • H: ぺっとはいますか
  • S: subject + wa + to have (question)

I have a dog

  • R: inu ga imasu
  • K: 犬がいます
  • H: いぬがいます
  • S: subject + ga + to have (living)

Is there a chair?

  • R: isu wa arimasuka
  • K: 椅子はありますか
  • H: いすはありますか
  • S: subject + wa + to have (question)

COUNTING WITH WA

  • The wa counter is used to count birds and rabbits.

There Are Two Birds

  • R: tori ga ni wa imasu
  • K: 鳥が二羽います
  • H: とりがにわいます
  • S: subject + ga + number of subject + counter type + imasu

There Are Three Rabbits

  • R: usagi ga san wa imasu
  • K: 兎が三羽います
  • H: うさぎがさんわいます
  • S: subject + particle + number of subject + counter type + imasu
